I have a HD600, and got another HD800.  Wonder if HD800 worth the extra money?  Considering I will also need to buy extra amp, dac, etc...  How much percent in terms of performance, comparing these two headphones?  Thanks.

As I posted just hours ago (that earlier post akde the same question between the HD 598 and HD 600 and/or 650), no one can answer that question for you.  Only you can make that subjective call in the context of your personal situation, tastes and preferences.  The best option is to listen to each on a system you have or can afford to buy.  Failing that best option, read this:

No one can answer the "is it worth it?" question for you - that is something you need to determine for yourself. What I can tell you is that if you are trying to work this as a math problem, you can't. Spending 2X the money does not get you 2X the performance. Audio price vs performance is not linear. The Audeze LCD-3 is not 2X better than the Audeze LCD-2, and the Abyss is not 3.5X better than the LCD-3. As you go up in price, the cost of a small step in performance goes way up, and the top-of-the-line headphone in any brand is always going to be a premium cost. And all this doesn't even consider the fact that when discussing the top headphones, many people might say that the HD600 sounds better than the HD800. It all depends on what you are looking for.

The law of diminishing returns is alive & well in the hi-fi world.

I'm guessing that as audio perceived quality from varying brands and models of headphones is totally subjective, then some may find some models 2 or 3.5X better than whatever and some to a lesser degree also?

Whatever ratio of improved quality is perceived, rightly or wrongly, it can only be subjectively individually decided upon as to whether the added costs are worth the return :)

HD800 is the super HD600... weil as long as u use proper amplifier... i am using desktop tube amplifier SET with speaker out directly to XLR out to headphone... so far very happy...
I would agree with this. When you tire of the HD800 super-detail, simply switch to the HD600 for a while. When you tire of its laid-back warmth, go back to the HD800. I use a 650 instead of the 600, but the analogy is not much different when comparing either 600 or 650 to the 800. I don't find the need for any other headphone using these two.

I've had both in the past and it's just up to you and the tuning of both. They're both 300ohm and some prefer the tube amps on the hd800 but it's personal preference. I've used the JDS Atom + stack and balanced ones like A90/D90 and as long as your setup can handle the voltage swings they sound great.
Peak in the bass range can hit 511ohm, they rate them pretty conservatively. Current/voltage helps from a balanced setup (or tube).
