I have a pair of HD558 on demo and I'm very impressed. The graphs at Headroom show that the HD558 and HD600 have a basically identical frequency response curve, with the HD600 being lower distortion.
 
Question: with a good home desktop headphone amplifier, is the HD600 more natural, smooth and resolving than the HD558 or simply more revealing and ruthless? In other words, since I like the HD558, is the HD600 worth the additional cost or will it prove more analytical and ruthless?

I used to own the 558 and I loved with my xonar stx. I have auditioned the 600 with a good setup at a local store, for me it is a good upgrade from the 558 but can't justifiy the 400$ price tag vs the 100ish$ of the 558
