Hi, I thought I saw a post on head-fi about replacing the plastic grills on the 580 with the nicer metal grills of the 600. Can anyone provide info on doing this or provide the link to that thread?

I looked for replacement grills on the Senn website, but nothing there. What would I have to do- buy a broken pair of 600s to get the grills?

Thanks.

Thanks again!

Shoot, I'm ordering mine tomorrow. I highly dislike the cheapo looking "blue-grey" plastic grills on the 580s. But I must say that I like the look of the 580s much better than that 1989-style "carbon-fiber" marble look of the 600s (no offense to 600 lovers)! I know they surely sound better than 580s, and like someone said "you don't look in the mirror while listening to headphones", but man- I'd have to get some neon green biking shorts and checker-board Vans to go with the 600s. Hahahah. Oh well, just my opinion I guess. Someday I'll have the 650s and 595s. Now those are sweet looking.

So how are you liking your 580s Thaddy? I think I remember you recently bought them off the For-Sale forum right as I was going to make an offer on them. Heheheh. Nice grab.

Well have a great week all, and thanks again for the link zach.

PS- as far as the fashion of the 600s, I always think of the Dutch character "Gert" on MadTV in episodes
908: The Dutch Boarder
920: Sunglass Shack
Heheheh

CoolBlue, so far these things are rocking man! Right now I'm listening with my AV-710 since she just came in

Pretty soon I'm getting a new amp, a maxed out Cmoy with output buffers, so I'm hoping they sing even more! Hopefully that will clear up the highs and tighten the bass, which are my only complaints right now.

Bah I guess I'll order the grilles tomorrow too...

Ordered the 600 grills today using phone # 860-434-9190. Spoke with Adam (x147) in parts dept and Jim (x172) in sales dept- they were both awesome. I recommend asking for them if you call to get the grills.

Unfortunately, the grills have to ship from either Ireland or Germany so it will be a few weeks. I went ahead and got 2 extra pair in case someone else wants them.

I also asked about getting the 650 and 595 grills just for fun, but they are not available as seperate parts yet, according to Adam.

I'm really surprised Sennheiser USA doesn't sell the grilles on their website. As common as it is for them to get dented, it's puzzling why they don't sell them with the rest of the replacement parts (earpads, cords, etc).

This is the actual part # "70211, Cap ring with perforated sheet" not to sure of the US costs, This was the original description: HD600 Decorative Grille part no. 74573Cost: $2.66 ea. but that is the semi oval arm, I guess Neil P lucked out.
Cost in Canada is $12.66

The thing I like about the HD600 grills is that they allow you to see the driver element with them on (I think they look cool that way), unlike the stock HD580. I'll order a pair for my 580's soon as I log out. BTW, thanks for the heads-up acg2424.

BTW for those that love the sound of the HD-580, the HD-600 grills change the sound too much.
It takes away nearly everything I like about the HD-580. Adds more mid-bass and makes them slightly more muffled sounding.
I prefer the treble of the HD-580 (silver screen version).
