I'm using a  500dollar amp for my hd598 right now, and the difference between unamped and amped was quite satisfying for me; it sounded much more lively and dynamic. However, I heard that the 598 isn't that amp hungry. On a scale to 1 to 10 and if the hd598's or a 1, how amp-hungry are other products such as hd650, denon ahd7000, audeze LCD2, Hifiman HE500?

Heya,

From 1 to 10, 10 being most demanding (and merely my opinion):

The HD598 is probably a 2.
The D7000 is about a 2 as well.
The DT990 PRO is about a 3 to 4.
The HD650 is about a 4 to 6.
The LCD2 is about a 6 or 7.
The HE500 is about a 6 or 7 as well.
And something like the HE-6 would be your 10.

Your "$500" amp could be a $80 E10 and it'll be pretty much the same. But if you plan on getting harder to drive headphones in the future, assuming your "$500" amp can actually power something more demanding sufficiently, maybe you should keep it and just wait and see.

Very best,

I really don't get the my 500 being same as the e10. What do you mean getting harder to drive headphones? Could you explain in easier terms? Sorry :frowning2: I'm really new to this headphone world.

I think what MalVeauX was getting at was that:
on your HD598, the affect of a $500 amp will be the same as a FiiO E10
However, if you intend to upgrade your headphones in the future, then $500 amp will make more difference

Hi,

On this topic, do you think a Yulong D100 Amp/DAC will provide enough power to run HD650s and HE500s? Also, does anyone know how these phones may synergize with the Yulong D100?

Cheers.
