I've got an old pair or hd 570, and they are falling apart due to a careless roomate. From reading threads on here, I'm eyeing up the senn 595, and the denon d2000. The denons are a bit more, and was wondering if they are worth the added expense. I like the 570, I think. I've tried some Beyer dt770 80 ohm unamped, and really disliked those. The vocals sounded like there in the next room over. Too recessed for my tastes. I don't know if my 570's have the "veil" or not. I don't have an amp, and don't plan on getting one any time soon. What is head-fi's advice?

The Denons are a great choice, but i couldn't compare them directly to your older Senns. They ARE a lot more up front and seem to have slightly extended bass and treble than my Senns though. At 25 ohms impedance, they are very easy to drive, so if you don't plan on getting an amp (for now, lol), these would be a great choice.

The 595's are quite easy to drive, as are the Denons, so I wouldn't worry about the amp thing. I'd personally go with the D2000s.

What will you be driving these from? My newly arrived D2000 sound nice, but it seems they could definitely benefit from an amp... On some tracks I kinda felt like the vocals and/or horns were far away (like your impression of the DT770).

They'll be driven by a set of Klipsch 2.1 promedia "computer" speakers. I hardly use them anymore really, since I don't like to disturb my roomate. I might just stick the cans into the soundcard out, which is an x-fi. I do have an older analogue reciever, would that be my best bet?

Someone mentioned in another thread about a not so great midrange with the denon cans.

How would one characterize the hd 570? I don't have much to compare it to.

My brother has my old 595's and I have D2000's. For me its the d2k hands down and its worth the extra money.

I can't speak for the D2000, but side by side I prefere my D1000 to the 595

Sounds like d2000 it is! Is Amazon the best place to purchase? Audiocubes is pretty expensive. How is ebay these days? I haven't used ebay in years.

Cheapest place to purchase is on these forums, I should think. I paid $200 shipped for mine.

Yeah, shop here...less chance of getting something that fell off the back of a truck in Jersey, has been kicked around, or is a fake/broken/refurbed.

i hope you'll post some impressions on the d2000 if/when you get them. i've owned the 595's before, and although i thought they sounded pretty good, i gave them away and opted for the 580. i've been interested in the denons as of late and am always looking for people to post their thoughts on them. they really do get a lot of rave reviews around here so i hope you like them.
