HD580 & 6X0 Users, what have you experienced moving to AKG K701's?

My HD580's have a HD650 cable, and HD600 grills. I am running them from a DIY M3, a modded Art DI/O DAC and an old Sony DVD player (I can get quite a respectable 24/96 resolution with this set up).

After reading these comments, I'm minded to keep my wallet in my pocket.

Imo exactly same could be said about the 650's, there are phones that are better in everything 650's are good. But I guess for this price point there has to be some tradeoffs.

Driven by M^3 with various sources, coming from HD650, i found K701 slightly unnatural, with suckout-distant lower midrange (voice, piano, cello) and lack luster. Music through K701 is like a picture drawn with a sharp HB pencil. Through HD650, it is like a thick color pestel drawing.
