It bugs me every time I see a complaint of HD580-650s' high clamping force on the head. Here's a quick simple fix (I'm sure others have mentioned before). No pillows, basketballs, or sledgehammers required. The fix is instant; there's no waiting six months until either the headphones or your head give up.

Anatomy of the sennheiser hd580 headband (600, 650s very similar).

The two steel strips provide most of the clamping force with their curvature.
To weaken the pressure, simply straighten the steel strips.

Extend your headphones all the way out.

Bend the steel near the headphone outward.

My small head works wonders. Thanks for the tip though.

It works. I did pretty much the same thing with my HD-650s when they arrived.

Also, I see you removed part of the "Sennheiser Veil" on yor HD-580s. How do you like the sound without the foam?

Honestly, I thought it just exposed more of 580's "graininess." It wasn't until I used my poorly made Bender/Morgan Jones tube amp that I started liking the 580. The tube amp rolled off the highs and effectively boosted the midrange. For me, the tube roll-off was what really “removed the veil.”
