any help for a desperate newbie???

I'm almost ready to quit & go back to buying cheap 15-20 dollar headphones.

Don't know what to say really. I tested mine with some Mocean Worker tracks (samples at Amazon here. I thought WMP was better than Real but neither goes as deep as the CD

). Through my Onkyo receiver with bass boost on I played track 2, Detonator, with the volume up to about -5 and the 280s were literally

. No distortion. If I did go past +5 I could get clipping though. So, you're call whether it's bad phones or something else.

As for isolation, I don't think you'll find better in a full size phone. I think you'll have to go with the in-ear types if you want more. I've never used those but there are plenty of recommendations around.

I got my headset (HMD-280Pro = HD-280 + mic) back today. No more that annoying buzzing sound at the first tests.
