Price, like specs, is no reliable predictor of musicality.

Yawn....the posts here are all so familiar.

back to enjoying music.  have fun!

The provisional problem is people are being spoon-fed marketing lies for the sake of commercial gain. I noticed some artists now are using Vinyl for their releases but the biggest problem is they're very highly priced. So again, it's aimed at people with deep pockets.

I only own a couple of records now, Pink Floyd - The Endless River (Mint Condition), The KLF - The White Room so not very much. If I ever get another turntable I'm be looking for collectible and rare vinyl releases you can't get on download or CD format.

Mastering for vinyl means they can't hit the volume so hard, which hopefully will mean cleaner and more dynamic recordings with more musicality than a sterile sound. I've always been a mid-fi rather than hi-fi guy though, so I'm quite easy to please.

p.s. the absolute sound is absolute b.s. (a $3K power cable referred to as "real world prices"? LOL)

Definitely, vinyl is the way to go if you want to enjoy some serious music.  I get one or two LPs once in a while just to have some good fun.  Even if I have to record it as a 24bit/96kHz wav files to listening on portable is a big improvement over the harsh regular cds and mp3s.

This has become a vinyl fan-boy thread. Too bad.

Regardless of vinyl or CD, if the source material and playback gear are excellent calibre, then music will sound superb. Period.

Getting back to the OP topic, has anyone (for fun or otherwise) used one of the available online software to check/verify the "HD" nature of HD downloads bought from sites like HD Tracks, etc.? I'm not convinced all of them are genuinely "HD", taken from HD masters.

It doesn't really matter about radio for me.

With that turntable I'd get a nice tube preamp with a good phono section and a good tube amp or at lease a Integrated tube amp like a Audio Research, Conrad -Johnson, Cary Audio, etc)

Tubed gear are a constant drain on $ -- rolling, etc. End up spending more time listening for flaws and rolling tubes more than really enjoying the music. Not to mention burning in tubes.

as I like to say: Tubed gear are for people without central heating.

My experience is that HD files 24bit/96kHz from HDTracks sound clean and airy but no much space, no much separation, soft and thin. I had compared a CD vs. HD 24bit/96kHz from HDTracks vs. Vinyl and Vinyl beats them both.  That's the reason why I comment about vinyl.  For a serious audiophile, a multiple thousands of dollars Home Stereo 2 channel setup vinyl is still king, now for the casual listener any mp3 sounds great.

All the fun things require spending money and maintenance. A good vacation is very expensive, going out with a nice woman, a luxury car, a nice house, even pets are very expensive to support, but hey, it's just part of having fun in this short life. I have a dedicated air conditioning unit just for my audio room, just for the sake of music ha, ha, ha

Tube rolling isn't maintenance. My point was that switching tubes, waitin' for burn-in, etc. distracts from the core aim: enjoying the music. Spending money on the other stuff you listed, vacations, women, etc., doesn't distract from those core aims. The money isn't the point. It's the distraction from enjoying the hobby (music).

cheers,

(and vinyl is great...just not as great as the best digital recs I've heard, imo. Life's too short....).
