Havi B3 Pro-1 Impressions Thread

Listening with B3 at the moment to the :

http://www.classicalcdreview.com/stanislaus.html

This recording has been hitherto "unlistenable" ; if  the level has been kept so that at the full blast of the organ
equipment still somehow "survived", it was too quiet at anything but the peaks - or you could have the average levels at the correct volume and peaks herondously distorted.

Havi B3 is the first audio "whatever" I have heard that is capable of giving this extraordinary good recording justice; it does not seem to struggle with anything. Backed by the proverbial "power plant" amplification, the final hymn Salve Polonia is something that really has to be heard to be believed; no description is likely to prepare you for this level of command of sound reproduction.

It remains clear - from pppp  to the full blast - always keeping its superb imaging intact, regardless of loudnes it is called upon  to reproduce. And the bass, described by most users as the weakest link of Havi B3 Pro (Old Version ) is -  palpable

After this recording, almost anything else would be cat's meow compared to the lion's roar ...

Analogsurvivor, is it possible to listen this online from somewhere?

BTW, I have started to listen some albums from the old days from the Pink Floyd (Echoes) and amazed by the sound that B3 Pro1 reproduced

I was always a big fan of Pink Floyd recordings and they found a new breath with this B3...

Also "binaural" recordings sounds very good with these. I have tried this one:

...played through my old Sony D-465 CD player. That was an amazing experience. It was an easy task for Sony CD player to power the B3

I made some own recordings using Zoom H4n and Roland binaural mics to test it myself. 3D reproduction, imaging, soundstage, all were great

I am afraid not

. For nemerous reasons - I am afraid that demise of Telarc ( they were the pioneers in true sense of the word, from the choice of the music to the sound quality ) has seeds of doom exactly in that; too outlandish "alternative" catalog, recorded in too high sound quality for the general public to accept and swallow. And $u$tain Telarc with record/CD/SACD sales... Besides - that kind of SQ would be severely compromised in anything less than at least CD quality; original recording was DSD - in 2004 ...

It is highly unlikely anyone will be supporting a defunct record label by making its recordings available online ...

It IS unusual for the Hungarians to act like Johny Come Latelys when it comes to their countryman , Ferenc Liszt, but in this case they were 7 years behind the premiere performance & recording in the USA in 2004 :

Unfortunately, it has been proven, many times over, that absolutely sublime recording of chamber works by Hungarian recording engineers, does NOT stretch to recording of larger forces; as it is obvious from the above link, St Stanislaus oratorio is unfortunately no exception. All there is on YT regarding St. Stanislaus is this infomercial for the CD with interview/presentation in Hungarian : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3gKbDE-R14

Regarding sound quality, Telarc recording stands miles above the above competition.
In immortal words of one of the reviewers of The Absolute Sound ( while reviewing a recording of a Mahler's symphony by the Deutsche Gramophon ) : " ... a mountain has been made into a molehill... "

I bet the binaural recording you posted ( and I am not familiar with yet ) sounds awesome with B3s; so do my own binaural recordings.

B3's bass at its funkiest ...

Full of layering and imaging
basshead.gif
bass section has to be heard to believed
eek.gif

AB'ed with KC06, difference is obvious (strangely also KC06 slightly distorts at the high volumes). No 3D sound on KC's. Imaging is not as near B3.

I seriously hope you can get a buyer - or else the claim that Turks are the most badass audiophiles on the planet *somehow* does not live to its reputation ...

While typing above reply, listening to the Real McCoy ( LP ) and at the same time monitoring its DSD recording at 5.6 MHz ( trough the B3, of course ) - with one of the top 5 ( according to me, top 3 ) phono cartridges ever made : Audio Technica AT ML180 OCC .
as it can be seen here :
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Garfield-Am-I-Cool-Or-What/release/1714250
it is the last track on B side, meaning it can reveal any inner groove distortion related problems. Eminent Technology ET2 linear tracking air bearing arm, clear as a bell ... with soundstage to take your breath away to boot.

To get the distant taste of the track :

In my case I think it will better to give it as a gift to my wife. I am lucky because I bought the gold color

not the most technical piece of music, but this sounds great on the B3, particularly the snares after 1:30. the definition of great soundstage. enjoy my friends!

be sure to play in 2160p!

Sorry, I just have to comment on this quote! I love it. This is the kind of quote you only find from someone who pays a lot of attention to things, and cares about them to a degree beyond most anyone. I'm sure he knows what he's talking about, and I could not possibly have an opinion on the matter, or tell if he's wrong or right about it. I give it a +1, not on its content but on its spirit. Seriously, I wish there were more people in the world who were into things enough to develop opinions like this, even if it's over my head. If I ever hear anyone commenting on how Hungarian recording engineers fare on large vs small ensembles, I will definitely chime in, and bluff like I have something to say! ;)

by the way guys, after my failed comply experiment with the kc06, i switched the comply t-400 off, and instead of putting them away, i said why not try it on the B3 for a while?

very surprisingly, the sonic performance of the comply t-400 was EXACTLY the same as the sennheiser double flanges that i have been using. to make sure my ears were not deceiving me i put one side as the comply and one side as the sennheisers, and switched them around, and still found little sonic differences, if any at all.

in terms of comfort and how the B3 is supposed to be flush fit, i suppose the DF are still the better choice. however, this is just food for thought, in case anyone prefers the foam material, or needs the slightly better isolation!
