I've seen a few pairs go for well under $100 in the last couple months. I think people are starting to realize they're not rare at all, so they're easing up on the bidding wars.

The K1000 isnt rare either. Theres more than 10,000 of them. Thats an order of magnitude more than there are of SR-Omegas, HE90s, R10s, PS-1s and HP-1000s and probably more than there are also of HE60s, GS-1000s and SR-Sigmas.

They can still be had easily enough for hundreds less than the average head-fi asking price (which seems to have inflated up to a silly $1200 or so) if you are prepared to actually look and wait.

I was just using that as an example, but seeing as the prices are coming down, that may be in relation to the fact that I haven't seen a lot of Sextett threads lately...

I'm just glad head-fi doesn't affect the pretzel market.

Yeah, I got a minty K1000 on ebay.de last autumn for around $800, including insured international shipping & bank transfer fees. The prices for a minty pair on ebay.com right now are reaching as much as $1500-$1600, probably because people have no self-control on ebay when it comes to expensive toys. I don't know where things stand for the K1000 on ebay.de though; I haven't really been tracking things there lately.

And yeah, I avoid talking about stuff that i think i have a shot at acquiring. Not that it helps.

Nah, it just makes it worse. If you don't talk about something, then one of us with a mouth 10x as loud will start talking about it instead.

The way that the USD is continuing to slip, even $1600 will soon be affordable as an import to the EU.

So true!
The USD are not worth much these days (the weakest since 1981 against our currency), which make importing goods from US very affordable.

Good time to do some shopping here on Head-Fi!
Bad time to sell.
