Although, the OP did say he's not really an audiophile....
In this case though I would agree - get the economical source equipment, fix up the headphone and enjoy near-perfect sound for the rest of your life for less than $500.
the Adventure of discovery, Sell em, marry your sweet heart and go for something like a HD 600 combo with your choice of amps, if you find you start to like the audiophile thing you'll have the exciting goal of reclaiming the HD 800 and going for an amp to really make it shine!
If your not an Audiophile, then remember what's most important to you and use that can to forward your goals in that respect!
