i want a good upgrade from my sr-80.
i don't have enough money to buy an amp at the moment.
i'm gonna use my reciver for the time being.
what headphones would you recommend for my specific situation?i like all types of music, and i will buy an amp in the future, but i'm gonna have to live without an amp until i get a job,so it might take some time,so i'm kind of ampless for the near future,i guess.
i'm considering DT-990,K-701,HD-650.(feel free to suggest more headphones)
and btw, which one of the three headphones mentioned above is gonna sound good straight out of a dap?

Denon D2000's

Will work fine without a big amp.

So...you're going to deviate from Grado but go back to the high end Grado in the end? Some of those headphones would be a "shock" to a Grado sig fan. Why not move up the Grado line progressively? $300 can probably land you the 325i or MS2i.

I started out a Grado fan.

Got the SR80's (which I still like), the SR325i's, and then the RS1's. (still own all 3)

And while the latter 2 are definite improvements over the SR80's, I think Grado shot their wad at the lower price points.

I actually intend on buying the 325i/MS2, but apparently you need a very good source/encoded files for the MS2 to really shine. Same situation as you, I'd go for the 325s from ttvj and refund after 30 days if you don't like it. Then go for the ms2

I would not recommend a dt990/250 without an amp ... They will be very disappointing ... the 50 ohm version should be alright though ...

I'd recommend these cans if you are predominantly a rock listener as that is what they excel at.

325s, the 225 is lacking of bass... even though it seems like I am the only one to say such things.

That is exactly what i am worried about.
adding alot of money and not getting a great improvment.

For liking all kinds if music and running the cans off a receiver for the moment, about all I can add is what works for me.

For a middle-of-the-road kind of Grado, I'm having real good luck with MS2i, and for a middle-of-the-road kind of Senns, I'm also having very good luck with HD600.

The MS2i has most of its' fun at the rock end, and the HD600 is more than happy on the classical side. They both play interchangeably well in the middle.

Grado 325i. The Senn 650, Akg 701, and Beyer 990 won't do the job without a proper amp.
