Those of you who are thinking about buying an amp from Cattylink, please be forewarned. I bought a faulty CD player and have alot of problems trying to get in touch with them. They list three telephone numbers on their website but non of them is contactable. (TEL): +852 29590231; +852 29590232; +852 21483392 Try it yourself. How can a company lists three telephone numbers and perpetually have them go unanswered? It's a big risk. After sales is almost non-existent and I am pissed. It's ok if the stuff you bought is alright but try and imagine if it is not alright. You will have a hard time. Hopefully after this thread, they will pick up their phones.

I don't think his looking for help, but just telling people his experience with them.

I was about to purchase an amp from them around 2 years ago, I emailed them my order a few times and never got an answer. Then I tried calling them and kept getting an answer machine that spoke in Chinese.

It can be frustrating, but there are people that have had good experiences with cattylink.

When i did a search on the net i found some over sea's forums where many claimed to haved purchased items back in 2004 and 05 and never recieved there purchase.After dealing with snowy in the past that is hard to believe.

I have bought most of my Chinese stuff ('cause I will not pay the high cost of audio anymore) from Pacific Valve in the US:

They carry almost all the Lite, Bada some Ming Da - as well as offering Mods. I just talked to them and they indicated that they were getting the DIYEDEN Great March DACs and offering a modded version. They also found a great amp KT88 amp from Xiansheng that, they claim, "knocks the heck out of the Cayin and Prima Lunas" which will be less than $800.00

I have gotten to know them and they are a group of investors with a business model determined to bring high end to reasonable prices and energize the market and emerge as a leader. They are easy to get in contact with becuase they walk around with hand held email devices and answer emails almost as quickly as you send them

Sounds interesting.... that's all I know. You can call them at 630 208 7791.

Chinese websites as in, really Chinese, from China. From what I've heard from people who've had experience with them, they tend to charge you a lower price if you contact them in Chinese (I did).

If you dont like the US prices for audio equipment you would hate Australia. Having a small population keeps prices high as well as limiting avaliability and choice. Eg. A cambridge audio 640 cdp costs 100 pounds sterling less in the UK than in Australia! When you consider that the price is only 240 sterling in the UK, thats a huge difference...not to mention that my nearest supplier would be 2 time zones away! So that was my main reason for looking into importing from China or HK.

The reviews on the chinese equipment seem very promising for build quality, sound and price. I am now swaying away from Shanling towards the EastSound 5 based on the reviews I found on the net (inc this forum), but with a slight concern over the faults some have encountered with eastsound - as expressed in other threads on this forum. The problems seemed easily fixed but thats still a little worrying....

Pacific Valve looks good value if you are in the US, they retain sensible pricing and do the importing for you - what more could you ask for? After looking at their site Im now also concidering the Bada HD-22... time for some more researching....

As I dont understand chinese it looks like I will be relying on catty as my supplier. I mailed them again yesterday to confirm the eastsound price, I wonder when I will get a reply.......

I can't get through to him either, 6 or so months ago I had plenty of timely email contact no problem. I wonder if he has a over active spam filter on, and some (alot) of emails are going straight to the junkfolder..

Maybe anyone who has managed to contact him advise him of the fact many people are trying to contact him and see if he has a spam filter on steroids..

One of the sources for Chinese gear in Oz is www.coemaudio.com.au. They're the authorized distributor for Original. There's a branch here too, but the markup is so high that I was kinda shocked. I'm fine with supporting local shops, but not when the price is twice of what you could get online.

An interesting find while browsing through various Chinese hi-fi forums and their version of audiogon is that a CDP such as the A8T is similarly priced to a Marantz 7300 over there (both around $350). With a price of 700 from aaa-audio however, you'd expect the A8T to be way better than the Marantz. This also sheds light on the nice profits they're(the western distributors) reaping from all this low-cost Chinese gear.

I checked out coemaudio and was surprised at their mark up on this gear. I guess they get hit with a lot of import taxes, but on items imported into Auatralia under AU$1000 there is no import duty for individuals. This obviously adds to the attraction of shopping from HK/China. There are now many on-line shops selling all manner of goods direct from Hong Kong. We have used several that were very efficent, fast and cheap....a big shame there is not an audio supplier offering such good service.
