Has an artists behaviour ever turned you off their music?

That act is kind of old now. 1984!!! I know what you mean. I sometimes wonder if the band mates ever roll their eyes?

Ironically, in the context of the thread's question, Bono's efforts for Africa-3rd world debt-AIDS,etc have me sort of forgiving of him. Not that it makes me like the music or anything.

Yes. It happened with most of the stuff I used to listen to. Metallica, Chili Peppers, Pantera, Fear Factory, Emperor, Tool, Sevendust, Grinspoon etc ... the list goes on, I forget them all now, it's been years.

Just such ego and foolishness.

Lol, man this is an old thread ... how come all the interesting ones are buried?

When musicians think they can solve the worlds problems and/or when they cry about the president.

Currently liberals are crying their eyes out, but even when conservatives do the same crying. Its all distasteful. Musicians tend to simplify things and work off anger without having a clue to the complexities and realities of the situation.

A few bands can pull it off by being tactful and knowledgeable. U2 is a prime example, but the dixie chicks, norah jones, and Bruce S. are laughable... not that they weren't before.

When my sister found out Delta Goodrem hit it with a married man she couldn't listen to her music anymore. For me I still listen to Michael Jackson's songs even though he's a notorious pedophile.

That happened to my dad, he stopped listening to Sinatra back when he totally went racist ape-crap on a poor asian cocktail waitress at the Playboy Casino.

Sinatra. Scary.

Edit - scarier is this graveyard bump. 3 Yrs old. Is that a record?

Agreed 100%.

I dislike most Christian rock too (although occasionally I don't mind one), but I dislike music with Satanic themes even more. Just don't get the whole fascination with that stuff. It seems so poser-ish, no matter how good the band is. It's almost as bad as emo stuff.

Creed.

Metallica. Especially Metallica. Being an ******* or egotistical prick is one thing, and it has to go to an obscene level to really turn me off to their music (see above), but the sheer amount of hypocrisy and willfull ignorance Metallica displayed in the early P2P days just angers me.

Only when an artist makes racist or prejudice remarks do I get really turned off. I look at them as power abusers.

Then again, it is my belief that had Hitler been a composer on the level of Beethoven I would still see some merit in his music even though I think he was a disgusting person in every possible way.

Hitler was a composer on the level of Beethoven, he just didn't play music. I try to level my judgment according to the artists' talent. Genius can do anything to the common man; rape, murder, pedophilia -- it's their right. As talent falls, so should leniency.

Hitler was a composer, a painter too......but he was no Beethoven or Rembrandt.

I disagree. As talent falls, so should responsibility. It's ridiculous to say I can go rape a woman because statistically speaking I play piano better than 99% of people.

I agree with you computerpro3. However, there are plenty of rapists, murderers, and pedophiles in the history of music, art and literature........

I'll name a few

Edgar Degas (rapist)
Carlo Gesualdo (murderer)
Steven Tyler (had an affair with a 12 year old girl)

I'm not saying these should be accepted things, but it doesn't take away from their art for me.

In general I don't have a problem with Christian musicians or even vague Christian themes in music. What I hate is when an artist preaches his religion/beliefs in a song. Anything along the lines of "Our savior is coming!" or "Repent all you sinners!" or "Believe in my God or go to hell!"... grrrr.....
