Just got back our small meet at kin0kins place (thanks for the drive home Brian

). It was a great chance to get to hear some excellent gear.

I expect pictures will be coming along shortly but here are some of my impressions:

Senn HD600 - I liked these a lot better than the HD650. They aren't the most upfront but they seem to have a pleasing sound with good detail retrieval and natural presentation.

RS-1 vs RS-2: RS-1 sounds more seperated but more shouty up top. The bass on the RS-1 has more slam but is smoother and more even on the RS-2. RS-1 has a wider soundstage and sounds slightly faster, RS-2 excels with vocals. RS-2 is my pick.

RS-1/SR-60: This one startled me. With bowl pads on both, the SR-60 sounds very similar to the RS-1 in quick sessions. This shocked me, but a couple others agreed with me.

: kin0kins k701s sounded different that mine by a good amount. His had a more upfront sound vs airier sound for mine. His were slightly louder at a given input level too. Both have a lot of hours on them.

A900 LTD: I just don't "get" the AT sound I guess. Found them unnatural sounding. They sounded like a really nice radio to me.

@the OP:

Your comments regarding the difference between the two K701s confirm something I've heard myself. Filburt and I have compared our K701s on two separate occasions, and each time we've heard differences similar to the ones you heard. His had a more upfront character while mine had more air.

Yeah! Thanks Brian for driving me home. Although I didn't listen much, we had a great time today! All gears are damn so wonderful and perform so well that was out of my expectation. Thanks Kean for the house and the snacks~

this is no BS at all, the difference was so darn obvious that I also noticed it right after i switched fom Jam_master_J's (Justin) 701, and I bet everybody in the meet noticed it.

the most surprising thing in the meet was actually Edison's hd600....for those of you who didn't like it...you should hear how a new pair sounds...FAR much worse than that...I actually like Edison's hd600 alot (temporarily traded with him) and I'm definitely buying a pair and burn them in for ages. (Edison's was 3 yrs old) It tastes really bad when just brewed...but a very good wine when aged.

I'm still not interested in the HD650 at all, though

Apparently everybody thought that was BS and nobody cared about it

Have you tried the AT woodies? I wouldn't judge AT sound based on the A900LTD as they sound very different from the AT woodies.

yeah~A series is actually something that ATH tries to move the sound style towards the typical european taste. I found it, besides A900 & A1000, more balance and cool sound among all ATH's headphones.

I've also heard the w5000, w100 and w1000. All have, what I perceive to be, unnatural and honky mids.

lol. We actually ABed the lavry n dac-1, 2 people got <50% correct, Justin got 58%. The difference were quite subtle, with the Lavry DA10 sound more analytical and slightly brighter and DAC-1 with slightly more weight and depth.

Yeah, the DA10 sounds no different to the DAC1

Nice catch for the first one, Andrew. Justin looks like a Musician. Should send it to AKG.

Even though I had the best score, I'm not too proud about my performance in the blind A/B

Then again they were both nice units so neither sounded deficient in any way to me.
