Hagerman Audio Labs "Tuba"

This is something that I am thinking about…(here we go again…yet another h/p/a?…🤪). I assume that the Sbooster would increase dynamics, lower noise floor, add ‘heft’ and soundstaging detail. If I were to add Tuba + Sbooster to the stable, it would clearly be for the more efficient / sensitive headphones (Clear, Gjallarhorn, Grado, LCD-X…)

Ha....looking forward to seeing a Tuba (photo) atop your Mystique  :sunglasses:

I'd imagine the booster would add some weight + dynamics. The Tuba (as is) is quite silent / blackground and fairly punchy.

Have any of you Hegerman Audio Tuba owners tried the 15V-16V Sbooster power supply unit in lieu of the HAT power supply unit?55108F8C-C8E1-43DF-A149-7853314782E9.jpeg
Is this a new/recently released device? I never heard of any other power supply while i owned my tuba. I was one of the early adopters of the amp.

This has been around a few years. The company was founded in the Netherlands, I believe. The Sbooster is compatible with many DACs, turntable power supplies, streamers in products offered in the EU.

Ahh i see. Sounds like a decent chance of actual sonic improvement. I ran my tuba off a power conditioner and that game the darkest background. As i was getting ready to sell my tuba, peeps keep suggesting LPS for it....never went that route either.

Would the Tuba be appropriate for an HD800s, or would they need more juice?

All, thanks for the response. I may check one of these amps out.
To anyone that’s tried the HD800s with the Tuba: does the amp impart any specific sonic changes to the 800s? (in comparison to a clean solid-state source like an RME ADI-2)?

Just joined the club and made the payment for a used Tuba for my ZMF Atrium, looking forward to it.

FYI - I have added a new $159 wood panel option, which I believe makes the TUBA look much nicer. Panels can be purchased separately for those of you who would like to upgrade the TUBA you already own. Wood also fits TRUMPET MC.

That's a very nice looking upgrade!

This is the father of the Hagerman Audio Labs Tuba - The Hagerman Technology Castanet. The Castanet was Jim Hagerman's foray into headphone amplifiers.
Having owned this classic for a few years now, I can say that Jim got this parafeed design right the first time. It is one of the best sounding headphone amplifiers I have ever heard, and compared favorably to the highly acclaimed DNA Starlett I demoed a few years back (and have since put an order in for).

+1 to what polygonhell said. The stock mullards are adequate and will do most people just fine. However, the lowend punch is missing. The bass is there, but not with authority. I have personally rolled atleast 11 sets on tubes on this amp and for me, and 7189 tubes sound the best. Tung-Sol 7189 are excellent tubes for this amp, they add exceptional amount of lowend to the overal sound signature. RCA gray plate 7189 or just regular el 84 are also nice. EI El84 from upscale audio is also great in midrange and lower mids. I m currently running a pair of 56/57 Amperex 7189 rare D getter and I think my tube hunt is over. These are the best mix of high, mids and lows in my tuba.
recently got a hagerman tuba and a pair of these amperex and wow. awesome pairing that gives it some nice depth compared to the mullards it came with.

currently using it with some focal clear mgs and i'm loving this combo
