It’s nearly perfect as a hardware plattform for those of us experimenting with inserting different upsampling algorithms into a dac.
Very well done Gustard
Playing from a battery powered device connected by USB (I’m playing ”Code Cool” in hi-res lossless from Apple Music with my iPhone) the sound is AT LEAST on par with I2S. The music is much, much smoother with less sibilance and glare. Excellent !
Guessing that it’s RF-noise that ruins the sound when playing music from the computer connected by USB - totally unlistenable.
Just in case anyone reads this thread wondering if the X16 is a good purchase I say “absolutely!”. It’s really good at any price - and incredibly good for it’s price. It checks all my boxes (time-domain performance, timbre, tonality etc)
This is one of the better DAC’s I’ve had in my system. Apart from Gustard I’ve also had DAC’s from:
- Chord
- Merason
- MSB
Pretty great company !
PS. The Gustard is not as good as the most expensive but setup “right” (my preferences) it’s remarkably close.
