I've tried and disliked the AKM 'super-slow' approach

unfortunately, the correct implementations can be counted on one hand. If you don't like it, it may not be a DAC problem. I checked for 4493, the result is very positive.

I'm not surprised because the 38 and 68 models can work as a multi-bit DAC in NOS. AK4493, 95, for example, in Super Slow roll off mode, can work in the same way. note - the decline is very typical

Does this graph not show only a .8 db loss @ 15khz & 4db down @ 20khz? This would be the usual result for an R2R NOS DAC.

I'm listening to the X16 in NOS with correction and amazed right now. This is doing things I haven't heard since owning a Metrum Flint and it doesn't need to sound warm/vintage to do them either. The AK4493 in the SMSL M300 I heard could not do this, it added the warmth without any of the effortlessness or staging of a real NOS DAC.

NOS mode disables the filter, it won't matter how that's set if NOS = ON.

I'm really enjoying the sound quality using NOS + EQ to compensate for the roll-off. There is one problem however that you lose a lot of gain if EQing digitally. This is because the overall gain needs to be reudced to avoid clipping. I had my Drop THX One set to the maximum gain setting & volume last night and was still short for some songs. Anyone who enjoys listening this way should consider how much gain their amp can provide, look into analog EQ, or be willing to compromise on the restoration of the high-end(does 20khz really need to be flat?)

I have set the display to close, it turns off during playback ok but if I don't use it and I stay on the display does not turn off.

I connected x16 via "balanced" xlr to the topping A90 and the power compared to the RCA is doubled, instead with the same xlr connection connected to the loxjie p20 there was no increase in power? why?

I have no difference in volume between RCA and XLR in H16. Perhaps this is such an implementation of a90

I like sundara with gustard x16 and topping A90 in balanced, even loxjie p20 sounds very good with x16

What are your sound impressions? Or maybe a prior question would be what we’re you running before and what changed when you hooked up
Your Arya’s to the x16? I am currently using a topping d50s, looking to upgrade..
