If you try to turn off the external clock and select the external clock input, Exterr will be displayed. If you turn on dsd direct, the music will still continue. If you turn off dsd direct, there will be no sound

It would be another hallucination or cognitive bias to perceive a difference with or without an external clock (still in DSD direct - DSD256 via HQPlayer) ?
Surprising that it is well identified (present or absent >> ERR Ext) and that it is not "connected" to the process.

For me, the AK4499EX chip either detects a master clock or not. If it detects "no", it switches to the internal clock.
In your case, you have no sound?
In my case, it works.
Your firmware is as follows (after update) :

For me it's normal. The detection circuit does its job. In case of no-detection, it displays the error but switches to the internal clock.
If the internal clock is selected by default, the detection circuit simply displays "INT".
In the AKM schematic, this is identified as "MCLK" (MCLK stop detection & clock divider).

If you don't perceive any difference (tone) with the external clock connected or not... then you can do without your external clock ! :yum:

To display firmware number :
Code:
When the A26 is in standby mode, press the power button to switch it on.
Hold down the menu button (gear icon) while the Gustard logo is still displayed.
A version number of Axxx_xxx_xxx will be displayed.
The more recent the version, the larger the number.

I also found that when dsd direct is turned on, the 48k family source will have high-frequency noise emitted from the tweeter unit of the speaker. It will only appear on dsd128 256, but it will be fine on dsd 512. Very strange

Dsd direct is only on DSD 128 and 256, not in DSD64 or 512 (inside upsampling).
But it's strange... nothing like that on my system.
Same firmware as me ?
A_115_131_234

I used I2S enter with DSD256.

Read this, I copy from Roon forum

You can test to see if you need it by turning 48k DSD on, turning adaptive rate off, setting the bit rate limit to 48k x256, and upsampling a 48kHz (or 96kHz) PCM source file to DSD256 (12.288M 1-bit output) in HQPlayer. Enable DSD Direct on your Gustard A26. If you hear crackles and pops, that means you are up to date. If you don’t hear crackles and pops, that means DSD Direct is not working, and all your audio is being filtered.

crackling can be heard throughout the playthrough if HQPlayer is converting a 48kHz family file to DSD output with DSD Direct enabled. For some reason, the DAC chip doesn’t like that input directly, but it processes it correctly when pre-filtered. But that also makes it easy to tell if your DSD Direct functionality is working or not.

I
Btw, if you use 48k family output from hqp, you will hear a pop sound when the music playing.
The AK4499EX only supports 128x and 256x rates. So DSD512 and DSD64 isnt direct. You are still passing through the A26 modulator.
Best performance for this chipset would be
DSD Direct mode, set DSD Filter to wide (they call it “Wild Bandwidth”).
Then set HQPlayer to output 44.1k x256

Things may seem complicated, but they can be simple.
Because some filters of hqp (sinc -mga) only support integer sampling rates (48k family), some people will turn off dsd direct in some cases, but I don't want to always adjust the settings, I just want to listen to music. I have two options.
One is to fix the 44.1 output and use a filter that does not limit the sampling rate (guass long).
second is to turn off DSD Direct.
