Ive only read about it being tried with the RS1. The HF1 being warmer, less peakey in the upper mids and more bass heavy might yield a different result.

??

Let me guess... sucked out mids, excessive treble and no bass?

I don't remember on the bass, but definitely the midrange and highs issue. I couple of people liked the GS1Ks pads on the PS1, but even that has issues. On the other cans it's worse. Then again the GS1Ks are so finicky with amps/tubes, etc. that I don't know anyone who has taken the same care to match another Grado with GS1K pads.

I wonder how the GS1000's sound with flats?

How did the PS-1's sound change with the begals?

From what I can remember (a few weeks ago since I sat down and did some A/Bing) they were very heavy on the bass and lost some soundstage. Definately more up-front than salad bowls. But overall, I wouldn't say they are a great combination. It sounds good, definately, it's just that the salad bowls are better matched to the characteristics of the headphone. Same could be said with the pads on other Grados. They work great on SR-225 but not so great on RS-1, PS-1 and the HP models. (from what I've heard)

What Mindless said, plus they have some serious mids and treble suckout. See here.
