I built it with the wima caps. I think it sounds a little thick/dark, missing air. Is this how it is?

Vista -> Foobar -> ASIO_4_ALL (also tried just whatever windows recognized it as instead of ASIO)

Here are my ASIO settings. Are they correct?

32 bit in your second screenshot is a problem. the PCM2706/7 at the input can only handle 16 bit audio, so something has to be resampling down on the way to the grubdac.

There is that ASIO driver checkbox that says "Force WDM driver to 16 bit" you can try.

Have you tried the WSASPI driver in Vista for Foobar? I use it on Win7 with good results.

I'm pretty sure the grub dac doesn't use WIMA caps. It definitely doesn't have output caps. Maybe you're getting it confused with the bantam dac? At any rate, I thought my bantam dac tended to be bright if anything.

The caps are more like a rc filter that's all. They aren't dc coupling caps.

You're right of course. Mine was the first version of the PCB. Maybe the new filter removes the slight bit of harshness? The cutoff frequency is probably much higher than 20khz though.

Yes they are part of the Wolfson recommended RC low pass filter.
