there are three cables coming out of my father's old turntable. two rca, and this thing.
i'm assuming is a grounding wire...so where do i put it if my amp doesn't have a grounding slot?
Most phono stages have a screw on the back for this. If yours doesn't, you should ground it anyway. You could always take a three pronged power cord and run this to the ground prong and leave the other two unattached.

Is it okay to do that with an older receiver that has the same? Is there any reason to if nothing connected to the receiver requires grounding? I have the opposite -- a modern turntable and older receiver.
