Jim Morrison would be a far second. Followed by Dylan, Springsteen, F.Mercury, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, P.McCartney, Joplin, Hendrix, Robert Plant, etc.. etc.. etc...

I looked through the posts prior to this one. I agree that Chris Cornell is definitely one of hte best ever.

Kinda forgotten these days, but Axl Rose was pretty damned good in the day. Yes, I know, but for rock music he was one of the better ones.

No doubt he has a great voice, unusual but great none the less. To me with most of these newer bands I have a hard time differentiating the vocals because they all pretty much sound the same (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Creed, ect., ect.).

Don't laugh but I thought Michael Hutchence of INXS did a good job. Maybe not the best (especially since Sting beat him out for best male vocalist of 1987, what gives?) but hey not bad. Now that he's gone, they're even holding a contest to see who will replace him - i think the show is called "Rock Star."
