well, I don't have all that many links to clips of his playing, but I own a copy of his DVD, "Guts" which is amazingly instructive and impressively creative.

3 Greats here - could you ask for more? I still love Stanley's sound - he has a very distinctive sound - with that sweet vibrato and clear singing tone...

And this Pattituci solo - stunning - with Weckl and Corea interplaying with the bass solo - this is what music is about....

Jeff Berlin is quite underrated I think. Perhaps a quieter figure on the scene but he has always had my respect. I am not so familiar with Chris Squire

I've become a huge fan of Stuart Zender, the original Jamiroquai bass player, from when they were less dance and more funk.  Effortless tasty slap and pop funk bass playing, especially on the Return Of The Space Cowboy album.  Not blatantly technical or showy, it's more subtle, but close listening reveals some brilliant playing.

This is an outrage, how the hell can we get to page 6 and no mention of John Entwistle?

Another favourite of mine is Peter Hook, particularly for the sound and prominenece given to the bass in New Order and the superb riffs he came up with, such as Blue Monday

Finally John Paul Jones as bass palyer and all round musician with Led Zeppelin and his sadly limited but excellent solo work.

I saw John Entwistle in The Who's last tour before he passed away. He did a guitar solo to blow your mind. The other members of the band, who consisted of one of the worlds best ever drummers, guitarist and rock vocalists regarded him as the most accomplished musician in the band.
