Greatest Bass Playing...(acoustic/electric)

Nice to see Niels-Henning's name correctly spelled in an international community.

I once saw him demonstrate one of the little secrets behind his virtuosity. He had taught himself to improve speed by playing with three fingers instead of two even if there were two or four beats in a measure.

I have one of his albums called TIki - which has OK but there was a great track of his playing on there which reminded me of Jaco alot. Actually - I first saw him in concert with Bobby McFerrin - they were duetting and that was my first impression - wow - he can really play bass...great musician!

another amazing and not so well known bassist.. Richard Bona.
He plays a lot with Pat Metheny and has excellent solo albums.
He is great singer and percussionist too.
his style is very eclectic so its hard to capture him in 1 song.   the song i really wanted to feature is HERE
but here goes.  solo around 3:00
and he plays a fodera... which means being awesome is actually a requirement...

Brian Bromberg and Mark Dresser both have phenomenal sound and technique, although they could hardly be aiming in less complementary directions for upright jazz bass. Dresser of course played with Anthony Braxton, Tim Berne, John Zorn, and many other cutting edge improvisers and composers of the first order in avantgarde music, while Bromberg has ventured into any number of fusion experiments, taken up piccolo electric bass, played on stage with two drummers and two other bass players, etc. and is more likely to be recorded with George Duke, Randy Brecker, Eric Marienthal, or Dave Weckl. So here are 3 links for each, and while I prefer Dresser's musical taste, I greatly admire what Bromberg does when he plays the acoustic upright.
