I thought I'd share this with the community.
I have just downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my onboard ALC889A audio controler. The SQ has increased dramatically. I am rediscovering my whole music library.
Previous albums like the angels and Demons OSt were not very pleasant to listen to but with the new driver everything has changed.
I am stunned and I recommend everyone that has Realtek audio controllers to often update their drivers because the sound quality is there.

hmm...interesting. what specific improvements have you noticed? my laptop uses realtek drivers version 6.0.1.5636. but i have no complaints about the sound as it sounds very good using wasapi and other configurations in foobar.

Soundstage, imaging, details, bass. Everyting is much better.
Sound is less bloated and I like my HD650 more now.
I haven't tried the K702 yet.
I would say above all, the soundstage is a lot better but I am no expert.

Are you saying that for some reason the spdif data your coaxial realtek out is sending is "better"?

Yessir!

S/PDIF has never sounded better with the 5864 drivers and I keep my faith in afordable computer audio.

I downloaded the driver yesterday and its 5898. I use the realtek with my Mackies and I do not see much of a difference.

No placebo effect at all, the difference is way too much present.
Perhaps my previous driver was older than yours.
