Grado Wireless Series

I’m interested & will order a pair. I’ve never owned a pair of Grado’s. The BT option, along with the 249.00 moderate price point, seems like a great way to find out what Grado’s all about. I love the idea of outfitting open back HPs with BT/portability...as I often roam throughout my house while paired to a smartphone...even above all the other tethered/wired set ups that I have (HP tube amp, 2 channel stereo, desktop amp). I currently rely exclusively on my Sennheiser HD1 HPs for BT/portability...so the GW100 will be a nice alternative while at home or possibly in some public spaces (played at lower volumes)

I need to sell some headphones before I order the GW100. My plan is to get them before year's end, so my impressions won't be anytime soon.

Anymore sound impressions?
I have a pair that delivered this week. The sound quality is lively & natural to my ears...both wireless & wired. Con: foam ear pads don’t offer much in the way of overall comfort. If Grado brings BT tech to their other HP series models it could prove favorable to adopters of wireless listening IMO. I’ve worn these in office... can easily be played at reasonable levels without ‘heard’ leakage by others.

Thanks, @KESM , I was just about to post that same link from YouTube - the reviewer said he expected sound quality to be at about SR60 level and he got way better than that - in fact he said it reminded him of the SR325, although he seems to not have made a direct comparison so much as one from memory, so I’m not sure how reliable that is, but it’s quickened my motivation to sell some headphones so I can get these sooner!

I emailed the UK supplier Armourhome, apparently us Brits will be able to get a hold of these around the middle of November. Thankfully there will be plenty of impressions and reviews by then.

Here’s some more random information....

Larry D provides mods on headphones (including Grados). I reached out to him regarding mods for the GW100s. He replied...no mods are currently available yet...as these are new & he’s uncertain if these can be outfitted with mods...until he’s obtained a pair to examine. Here’s a headphile.com link if you want to view his site offerings going forward.

I’ve added aftermarket ‘deluxe’ flat foam ear pads from Todd The Vinyl Junkie. It opens up the soundstage (removes the filter-making these slightly brighter IMO); fitment application is similar to on ears. The comfort increases (but YMMV). There are regular sftermarket flat pads & stock pads also available. See pics (stock replacements-not pictured). The difference between the (2) is foam thickness.

Given the price point & the fact that these are seemingly entry level offerings by Grado; I don’t think I’ll do any other mods (reached the point of diminishing returns). These truly sound wonderful ‘as is’ (out of the box). So much so...that I don’t understand the wired vs. unwired observations...nor the open vs closed back concerns over sound leakage. These are amazing without a dedicated amp/DAC (directly from a phone)....& are appropriate/capable of being played at any volume in the comforts of home or on the go IMHO (at moderate volumes...if you’re occupying a quiet space).

FWIW I’ve had a few enquiries on woodying these as well. My thoughts are the same as Larry’s. I need to get a pair to see if it’s feasible.

I might get around to ordering a pair in the next few weeks. If someone wants me to look at theirs I’d be happy to, but no guarantees until I have had a chance to examine them. I’ll let folks know once I have been able to get a pair in my hands...

So I haven't got a pair yet, but...I'd bet good money that at minimum folks could replace the inner sleeve and drivers on these. I would say upgrading the inner sleeves to Mahogany, and the drivers to a pair of Symphones V8, Nhoord Red or Elleven Acoustica R1 would be a good upgrade...

I'm in the UK, mine will be delivered on Thursday.

Apparently these have the SR225e driver in them.
