Still have a few weeks to decide to hold onto my sr60 or return it for something else.i like the Grado sound but im scared that my ears have some light ringing after an hour of moderate volume use.Im waiting on my 414 pads to see if comfort improves and highs get tamed but they really are not bad with comfies. If my hearing fears overcome me I might jump the grado ship for the sennheiser hd555 based only on reviews here and on amazon.Anyone have a sound and comfort comparison feedback on hd 555 as it compares to grado sr60 or recommendations for a grado replacement phone in 100 range.I sure dont want to loose good sound and comfort of a grado if I make this trade in because of hearing damage fears.

Jump ship, as I did a few years ago, and go with the Senn 555s. I have the 595s, which are a bit higher-end, but the 555s are GREAT 'phones, too. I have NEVER had any comfort or ear ringing issues with the Senns. Once you try the Senns, I think you will like them. I went from the RS-1s to my 595s.

In fact, I like my 595s so much that I just had the stock cable replaced with a Moon Audio Black Dragon. Yes, this is a hard-wired cable, but Drew at Moon Audio made easy work of it--a nice clean job. Though, I have yet to hear my newly modded 595s because I just sold my headphone amp, and am waiting on my new one (a Woo 3) to arrive. I am counting down the days

thanks-i have no intention of using an amp with the 555 so would they still be a good option?Could you describe the sound difference.I believs cnet said the 555 is more laid back and suited for dvd movies rather than music.grados are very bright so would the sound difference be a let down?

I doubt it, I have the HD485 which is a step below the HD555, and the koss ksc-75's which died a few days ago but they are not dissappointing at all.. the soundstage's bigger, sound is more warm and laid-back, yet there's still the treble/midrange is all there but in a different sound..

but non the less.. still good. and besides the HD555 should have more clarity and bass anyways, with a smoother midrange that doesnt stress out your ears.

err no contest, in your opinion

In my opinion the sr60 stomps all over Senn 555's, so who's right?

@ mattg3
I would give the 555's a shot, and decide for yourself

Can you tell me in what ways the 555's are better? I'm considering to get myself some 555's or ksc75's.

the ksc-75 and hd555 arent even in the same price range lol might as well go grados instead of the ksc-75's and comapre that to the HD555's.

...but they serve a different purpose. Im not sure of what his intentions were (hehe, too lazy to re-read the post) but the Koss is a great portable can; which the HD555 is not.

Edit: Re-read post. As you already have the SR-60, give the HD555 a try and keep one, or as it may turn out both... If you're looking for a more portable can still get the Koss Ksc75, if not, they arent in the same "level" as these other 2 cans.

Depends on how you listen to them.

The HD555's are super comfortable, and have a bigger soundstage, and feels like music is all around you, whereas the Grados are more inside of your head... you are one with the music with the Grados instead of just listening to music

Personal preference actually. If you're looking for a set of HD555's, I actually have a set that hasn't been used too much (I LOVE my HF-1's), and I'll part with them for $90 shipped if you'd like. That comes with the a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter, and of course the original box.

Good luck!

Ahh yes, just like how a KSC35 can be better than a SR325i.

To me, the 555 have better clarity, bass extension than the MS1. Better built and comfort as well. But they are more laid back. The KSC75, as good as they are, is not in the same league. It depends on your requirements.

Can the hd 555 power the creative zen mp3 player and provide enough volume?I read that its impedence is 120 ohms which seem kind of high.i dont want to get an amplifier for the hd 555 and my mp3 player is the only thing it will be used with but in home rather than as a portable. thanks

I'm using 555 now and isn't the impedance is 50ohms now?

I tried my 555 on my Sony MD MZ N710 ... They sounded pretty decent and acceptable ...
