Hi

I own the Grado SR 325i at the moment.
And i wanna know how the Sony SA 5000 and the Grado PS1-Pro compares to it.

I listen mostly to Metal (Melodic Death/Black, Power, Trash, some Gothic Metal).

Amp would be a Corda Aria but maybe a Corda Opera in the future.

Edit: added Grado PS1-Pro because it is also a option for me

Greetings from Germany

I'd probably say the SA5000 is on a similar level to your 325i, though with a different flavor of "quick and punchy."

The PS1 is a definite yes though, it's in a whole other category.

IMO SA5000 is in a different league than SR325i. SR325i has way too bright and edgy sound. Maybe it works ok with VERY VERY warm equipment but not with mine.

damn i like the grado metal headphone sound, but this thing is very expensive *g*

so the SA5000 has simliar sound as the 325i
is it a good HP for Acoustic Guitars ? (Grados sounds magic with Acoutic Guitars --> i like it really much)

Havent heard SA5000, but everyone describes them as super fast, over-the-top detailed, but very error unforgiving and very cold and thin. I dont know if coldness works with acoustics, compared to Grados sweet midrange...

I liked it much for with live and acoustic matieral than with studio mixed stuff. Smooth analogue stuff sounded great, harsh digital stuff really didn't work very well.

i should bought him months ago...

kk now i must go a other way, maybe a pimped Beyerdynamic DT990 @Manufaktur ?

Is there any way you can hear any of these things? Buying from a place that takes returns? The Manufaktur site is really only for the Beyer hardcore who KNOW that they want a Beyer phone for sure... the prices are a bit more than just a normal Beyer phone.

In my opinion Metal is the absolute worst music genre for sa5000. most metal albums i have heard (80's) sound thin, totally lacking warmth and midbass punch with the sa5k's, they are literally unlistenable.

At one time i disagreed with Pato about how bright the 325is are,but after owning them for awhile I can see his point. While I still like them for some rock,I find them way to bright for some other types of music.Horns can allmost be painful to listen to with the 325is.

Did you try any metal on vinyl rather than CD? I certainly agree that studio mixed CDs of metal sound awful on the SA5ks.
