For under $250, can I get anything that sound like a grado but has flat bass? Don't need exaggerated bass.

Just get a Grado with an amp that has a good bass boost option (one that doesn't muddy the sound).

If you want a Grado sound but better bass control, you can try Magnum drivers or Turbulent X drivers.  They are refined Grado like drivers.

If you get those, I'd be curious to hear how they work. The closest thing I have been able to get to my SR225i sound with better (deeper) bass is my Ascend Acoustics speakers plus sub setup. Would love to have a headphone alternative.

This flash card mod I just did gave an improvement to the bass extension and since it is easily made and easily removed I say give it a shot.

I took two regular sized flash cards and cut them into thirds (long ways). Using two slabs on each bowl is enough and you tape the flash cards to fit snug (around the outside of the bowl). I am still A/B -ing it to see if it is an actual improvement or my mind telling me it was. But it was free so see for yourself. ;]

Alrighty thanks, I'll try it.  Gotta buy a Grado first though lol.  I was thinking SR225i.  Would thery be good for rock/jrock/anisong?

You should find a local store to demo them first, demoing any grado (sr-325 and under) will give you an idea of what the 225s sound like but my personal suggestion is go Grado if you want headphones for rock and jrock.
