Tremendous headphone for those who enjoy the Grado house sound
I've never been in GRADO's house/home, so I wouldn't know about the sound there.
I will take your word for it!
Anyways...My HP100SE are shipped on a turtle, so I expect them at the month's end. :)

P.S. I doubt they are better than The Composer...

Next time you are in Brooklyn, let me know and we'll go over there together and you can hear how the headphones sound in their home!

As the owner of an HP2, PS2000e, and HP100 SE, I'm not even sure how to go into the differences. The new guy definitely has the widest soundstage and goes deeper and fuller than ever -- in strictly technical terms, it's the one. But for some reason it just doesn't give that same direct musical pleasure that the other two do. Headphones aren't just their stats, and I would argue that it really comes down to how much you want sound versus how much you want music. Obviously you want both, that's not what I'm saying, but there is an unmissable wow to the new guy yet I don't reach for it as much as the 2000e (or more accurately the 2000x and 1000x but same department,) which has more of a blend, a musicality, including listening to the piece of music as a whole, instead of "wow, catch the detail on that guitar on the right." I don't want to notice that as much, even though of course if you listen for a few hours you don't as much. I like the HP2 as well, very clear reference even if it doesn't have those dynamics.

At the same time, this is why I have the minority view of preferring the RS2x to the RS1x. But it's also why I agree with at least one person here who reaches for the Alessandro MS Pro x before the new guy. Nevertheless I would not be without the new guy, and if I could only have one that would have to be the one, because it's the superior phone.

I realize this all might seem -- nay is -- odd, but even putting aside the fact that so am I, these are impressions I would defend. New guy amazes me, 2000 brings me joy.
Could you expound on the mid-range differences between the HP100 SE and the PS2000e?

I kept wondering why the 100se was bothering me lately. I know I loved this thing when I got it. Now something about it bothered me.
Was it the metal chamber/cup or did it fully burn in and now I was having problems with its true nature?
Then it occured to me--- maybe it's the cable. Could it be when I changed out the single ended for balanced?
I replaced the singled ended cable and problem gone.

Of course, the balanced cable has silver in it. That made it sound more detailed and extended in the bass and treble, but it really made the upper mid/lower treble sound more thin and sharp.

What a relief. Lesson learned.

single end is the way to go for hp100se, balanced amp does widen the soundstage but it thin out the front depth a lot.

I really enjoy the sound with the 35mm + Bass trap. but... you are correct, the rods are too short or.. my hear too big. I will have to replace the rods or remove the nice headband
I found the same with the headband and 35mm, just about enough space to squeeze in my head with the 25mm. The comfort levels allow for easy all day listening at lower volume levels.

When it comes to YT and other reviews there's also a simpler answer. Grados take a lot of break in, they just do, more than any other brand I've ever bought. And these guys just wanted to jump on and get a review out there, ideally as soon as possible. I thought the HP100 SE was certainly the best Grado experience right out of the box, but while not necessarily harsh, the treble needed some working in, and I could see why a reviewer could just pop them on and maybe find it a little harsh for a $2500 headphone. I'm not defending them, I'm just saying I don't necessarily think their thoughts are as dark or even complex as some of the suggestions here.

All copper for sure. Hybrid cable was not nearly as good. (Fortunately redeemed by working well in my ZMF.) A top-drawer cable, too, it wasn't a quality problem.

Guess I need to buy a ZMF for my super duper fancy hybrid silver/copper cable...

Yes, every headphone enthusiast in existence needs a ZMF in their collection. Just found out recently that Zach and team is even working on a 3D printable set which should be lightweight and potentially affordable for those still collecting a weekly allowance!

Hmm, I thought it was GRADO.
That ZMF...is it short for Zach M***** *****?
If it is...that is very rude. :astonished::astonished::astonished:
Or, if it is...that's very cool!
If Zach personally confirms that it is (Zach M***** ******)...I will consider one in the future, for sure.
And if it is not...I'll be disappointed...and...NO ZMF will be in my collection. :joy:

Cheers! :)
