If anybody has a pair of these I'd love to see some pictures...the Grado site talks about a new design for the grill and the cap over the driver face along with all the other stuff I usually gloss over (specially formulated materials for the driver chassis and casing, etc, etc....). I'd also be curious as to what wood they used for the inner sleeve. Looks like Maple in the pictures, but its hard to tell for sure.

Okay, did a little Google-Fu:

Looks like thy've changed the hole sizes at strategic points, and seated the driver in Maple. I guess some of the other wood fiends can help me confirm that wood identification, but that looks about right to me, and these guys are saying it is:

I see no difference between the outside grill in pictures and the stock metal Grado grill.

$2695 is an outrageous price. The GS2000e last year was a winner. This year's PS2000e looks to be doomed.

Some people already consider the GS2000e ($1395) to be better than the PS1000e ($1695). This is almost double the price of the GS2000e. All their sales pitch has indicated is that they're putting the GS2000e's maple and driver into the PS1000e enclosure. Also, frequency response specs is irrelevant, but it's funny that they advertise the PS2000e to have narrower frequency response than the GS2000e. The biggest flaw of the GS2000e is recessed mids, but I've been able to EQ it to my liking.

In order for the PS2000e to be worth it, it must fix the recessed mids which are prevalent on all GS/PS models. If the PS2000e has recessed mids, there would honestly be no reason whatsoever to buy it over the GS2000e, which is much more lightweight and comfortable, and is EQable. Until I hear otherwise, the GS2000e is still Grado's de facto flagship.

It is indeed maple.

On TTVJ site now:

Ridiculous pricing. So it looks like Grado is jumping on the bandwagon of raising prices as well now. For that much money, at least start using nicer material on the rods, rod blocks gimbals, headband, etc. You can't use the same budget materials on your SR60 as you do on a headphone that costs $2700. Seriously, you can spend $50 for a Turbulent Labs headband that puts the Grados to shame.

I agree that it is probably an insane price. I would love to know how they sound. I can't imagine that Grado would alter the sound very drastically. They have no problem with raising the price drastically however.

Disappointingly priced for the build "quality". Can you imagine when (not if) one of those black chrome earcups falls off due to the crappy rods and scratches all to hell on your desk?

I can't because I'd never buy them but could you imagine!
