I tried a new potential grado earpad replacement recommended in the Headwize website (senn pad s33175). My opinion is the senn h-19545 pad is much better. The h-19545 sounds better, fits better, and is more comfortable. The s33175 is very thin and adds an edge to the midrange, sibilance is noticeably increased. Furthermore, it barely stays attatched to the driver and is nowhere near as comfortable as the h-19545, in my opinion.
I spent an entire day listening with bowl,flat,h-19545 and s33175 pads, switching between grado sr-225s and rs-2s that were hooked up to a maxed out home. I like the h-19545 best of any of them. To hear grados at their best you need a flat or
h-19545 pad.
BIG_PJ and Gino, I hope to get your pads out Wednesday.

Thanks! What do you think of these compared to the Grado comfortable pads or the Radio Shack pads?

The radioshack pads are like the s33175. They are to thin and dont have enough circumfrance to cover your ear.The radioshacks, however, are darker sounding than the s33175. I didnt like either of the thin pads. The h-19545 is better in every way to me.I really think the h-19545 is every bit as good or better than the flats. I have posted on this before if you want to check the archives. I am sending some of these to a couple of brothers outside the USA, I am hoping they will post their opinions so we can have a broader opinion base.

For my SR-325, -225 and -80 I use Sennheiser 19543 pads – but have to cut them to the right diameter first and to cut the holes in them. Maybe they're the same like 19545 otherwise (thickness, material)? They're yellow, btw... They're the only alternative to the bowl pads I can find – and clearly better in sound and comfort.

I just bought the SR325's off of audiogon, and have been experimenting with various earpads. Per sacd lover's suggestion, I purchased the senn 19545's, and I'm extremely pleased! I have never tried the flat pads, but have tried the Radio Shack ones on my SR-80's. Results are still preliminary, but the 19545's seem better than both the RS's & the Grado bowl pads. I've cut holes in the 19545's, but didn't think they were bad without them (still experimenting).

I'd still like a chance to try the flat pads, but as we all know, these are not easy to come by. In the meantime, I'm quite happy with the Senns. Thanks for the great tip, sacd lover!

HD 424. But as I said, I had to trim the diameter, so your suggestion, the 19545, would be much more appropriate, but I didn't find those.

I am a little confused here,if they are the same a the factory pads, why do they state in there product description that these pads mellow out some of the highs?

It says they open up the highs, not mellow them out...

When they say that, they are comparing these newer bowl pads with the older flat pads (that have now been retired) that Tyll and those HeadRoom (headphone.com) believe to be boomy, inaccurate and having a harsh resonance at 2Hz. However, as you can see from this thread, many people disagree with HeadRoom about the inferiority of the older flat pads and are attempting to duplicate the flat pad sound w/ Sennheiser pads.
