SR225 seem great, but I'm on a somewhat tight budget, is it worth $200?

Thanks!

No, it's worth about $150. Keep an eye on the FS forum here and you can get a good deal.

I don't like buying used much.

Why not? Buying used here from a member with good feedback is almost as good as buying new. People here are all at least a little obsessive about gear and they treat it very well, so used gear is in wonderful condition most of the time. Any imperfections will be stated by the seller, generally, and you can ask for as many hi res pics as you like.

People generally only sell in order to make room/money for other gear or to move a rig in a different direction (SS to tube, experimentation, etc.), so you know that the gear is in excellent working condition.

On top of everything, you get a huge discount over retail.

Have you used grado in the past? because they do have a certain sound signature that some love and other hate. If you want a more neutral sound go with the ms1. I have the sr-80is at the moment and love them. If I had the money I would have gone with the 225s. But for an entry level headphone the 80is are a great buy. I got mine from headroom for $85.

My first Grados were the 225 and I truly enjoyed listening to them hopefully the sound signature will be to your liking. If your a basshead look elsewhere but if you change the pads this will help the lower end response.

Then you should probably go for the MS1.

But seriously, used is the way to go with Grados. Everyone tries them out and either upgrades or doesn't like them or just has too many phones. Either way, there seem always to be a good supply of lightly used Grados at good prices.

I'm wondering which headphone set I should get.

SR60
SR80
SR225
MS-1

out of those and ive heard them all, owned the MS1, SR60s and the SR225...

i would get the 225s, hands down.

the 225 is really where the grado line starts getting much better...bigger sound, better bass, more detail/texture.

This is just my opinion....really depending on if you plan on amping...i would get at least a small amp for grados.

If you dont have a amp or plan on getting one...then i would go MS1 + amp instead of the 225s. That will give you more room for better grado later on.

And of course, this is all dependent on your source...

But I would want to spend $120max...

Are they really 2X better than the MS-1's?

well, no way you can get a 225 for 120$, so i guess its the MS1

i think the difference between the MS1 and the 225 is enough to justify the cost, however, thats just me.

and if you have no amp and play mp3...i dont think the 225 is a good choice..

for 120 you could prob get a cmoy and a pair of MS1 used here on the forums

FWIW, I picked up a used SR225 in excellent condition off the boards here for $125 shipped last week. I still think they're worth a bit more.

But I agree that MS1 with or without a little amp might be the best option.

Yeah; I guess it's the MS-1. I might do the MS1000 mod ONCE the warranty expires hahaha. Or at least the wire grill swap.
