Grado flat pad differences?

As a Grado fan I fully support the efforts to find the "ultimate pads", or at least options for folks whose ears don't like the stock bowl pads. I agree that proper foam density is an important issue. Many here recall that Radio Shack has inexpensive ($3 US last fall) flat pads (Replacement Ear Cushions #33-379) which fit Grados perfectly. Unfortunately, IMHO the foam in those RS pads is not dense enough. I believe a more dense version of this pad with a small (1-2 cm) center hole to avoid a muffling effect may be just what many are seeking. Personally, I keep coming back to the stock bowl pads.

I still haven't seen the mystery of grado flats vs quarter modded comfies solved. Ive had flats before but can't remember how much better they sounded against quarter modded comfies. Is there a huge difference in sound? Also what is the exact diameter of the flats center hole by the way?
