I got some new Grado SR225s a few weeks ago and they sound better than my old SR60s but they do distort/resonate quite a lot.

This happens in the bass range I think mainly from some notes of the bass guitar. Is this normal have I got some duds and can I make it better?

It's called "grattle" and likely happens when you have a hair in the driver.

Its "Grattle", common in Grados. Meaning there is hair stuck against the driver and it rattles. Put your mouth against the grill (the side that goes against your ears, thats where the hair most likely is afterall) and gently suck and listen if the grattle has dissappeared. If not, try again but bit stronger.
