Can you guys give sort of a relative rating for the Grados. I'm still wondering which one to get, but have only been able to listen to the sr60. Of course, I'd like to get the RS1, but I don't think my ears are good enough to appreciate the difference in sound quality from the cheaper models. So I'm wondering what you guys think... How does the line stack up, rating the GS1000 at 100 for argument's sake?

GS1000.......100
gs1000.gif

-MS Pro......
RS1..........
rs1smile.gif

RS2..........
-MS Two......
SR325i.......
SR225........
SR125........
-MS One......
SR80.........
SR60.........

So for example, some may say by getting the sr325i you get 90% of the SQ of a GS1000, so the sr315i = 90, and I probably won't appreciate the improvement compared to the GS. Do I make sense?

Thanks for your help...

PS. If you have a Grado, which one? And which want do you want to get next?

Hard for some people who haven't heard the GS1000.

But from what I gather from the forums here, GS1000 is actually quite different from the rest of the line and RS1 isn't necessarily inferior to the GS1000.

So I'd say RS1=97, MS-Pro=100, SR125=72,SR80=70, SR60 w/ comfy = 60 w/bowls=68.

GS-1000....100
RS-1..........300
SR325........90
SR225.......180
SR60.........130

I haven't heard the rest of the line so I can't comment. Suffice to say, I really didn't like the GS-1000.

Yesterday I had the chance to test the following Grado's at Hear No Evil (local shop).
Here are how they sounded to my ears through my Kenwood:

SR325: 100
RS1: 95
RS2: 92
SR225: 90
SR125: 80
SR80: 70
SR60: 60

I didn't like the GS-1000 and found it too different to really compare to other Grados. Thus, I won't include it in the rankings as it's almost like trying to rank an HD650 vs a RS-1.

RS-1: 95
RS-2: 95
SR-325i: 75
SR-225: 80
SR-125: 70
SR-80: 68
SR-60: 63

It's hard to assign numbers to something highly subjective like sound quality. That said, for the music I listen to (rock, jazz)...

MS-Pro: 200
RS-1: 190
SR-60: 150
GS-1000: 100

I listened to the GS-1K (both stock and Moon Audio recabled) at length at a couple of meets I've been to, including the international meet, and didn't really care for them. I currently own both the MS-Pro and SR-60 and used to own the RS-1.

The SR-60 really is a great sounding headphone. Only when comparing it "side-by-side" to the MS-Pro is when you can hear its limitations (less decay, flatter soundstage, lesser treble and bass extension).

Interesting thread. Would anyone mind comparing these in particular for me:

RS-1, RS-2, MS-2i, and SR-60?
Pick the one you like the most as the reference point of 100%.

When in doubt, and especially if you like SR60, get SR225. Best bang for the buck in Grado SR serie.

x2 on MaZa's opinion. Unless you are really into heavy metal and really hard rock, you have no business buying a SR80. And the SR125 has its known flaws. SR225 is really the true step-up for the SR60.

I currently own the SR60's and am looking at upgrading to the MS2i, It seems to be the best bang for the buck here in Canada, as grado's are much more expensive. Haven't heard anything else in the line up though. But from what I have read the SR225 is a good step up from the SR60. If you have the money read some reviews on the MS2i, it seems to be a good upgrade as well.

taking the MS2i as a reference
- MS2i = 100
- SR60 = 65 (with quarter modded HD414 pads)

and some I auditioned (though not really long and through a worse chain than my own)
- SR225 = 80
- SR125 = 70
- SR80 = 60 (with stock bowls)

and just for off-topic comparison:
- D66SL = 55
- A900 = 40
- KSC75 = 60 (unmodded)
- PX100 = 45

all in my ears and according to my taste

To my ears:

SR60 w/Comfies : C+
SR60 w/Bowls : A
SR80 : A+
SR125 : A-
SR225 : A
