yeah i auditioned these myself at an apple store. i too was expecting some bass monsters, and that very much wasnt the case. the highs were actually more forward than the D2000. unamped the bass on the D2000 was deeper and more impactful by far. as far as the mids. i didnt even notice or pay attention to them, so i dont know what that says...

Man, and I was just about to settle down with the hd650 with the bithead amp. Now I'm gonna have to see if I can test drive these.

Edit: Btw, you need to put batteries into these things? I guess it's what drives the bass?

I still wouldn't touch them with a 10 yard stick.

I'll stick with my AT/Denons.

Audition them at a local BestBuy.

The batteries are for the active noise-cancellation circuit and apparently, the internal amplifier circuit.

I did try them at best buy, I don't think I could hook them up to my mp3 player. And the volume was SO damn loud that I finally understand how young folks are going deaf. There was even a button that allowed me to make it even louder. And this is coming from a guy who's had some slight hearing problems since 4th grade!

And internal amp eh? That's pretty cool. Although I just remembered that the beats are closed, whereas the Senns I bought are open. I guess I'm the kind of guy that wants a more spacey sound.

There were a pair of headphones that Audio-Technica made a while back that included an internal amp and DAC inside. They connected to a source via an mini-TOSLINK optical digital out.

Beat it with the dead horse attached to a 15 feet tree trunk!

The ones at Best Buy are not a good representation to what these are. I'm not sure what source it is hooked up too, but my experience at home is no where near the display even at the Apple store, let alone Best Buy.
