My old Edifier S330D speakers seem to be dying on me, so I thought I'd look into a new system.

The only ones I've read about are the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, the AudioEngine A2+, and the AudioEngine P4.

I've got my PC setup with a Schiit Modi DAC and Schiit Asgard 2 amp, and I figure the Asgard 2 preamp could be helpful, but I'm not too sure on speakers and how they work.

I don't necessarily need a 2.1 setup, I'm okay with just the two units fitted with both tweeters and subs. Ideally the smaller footprint the better, and any thing that's easily wall mounted is a huge plus. Also, optical input is a bonus as I can use it with my TV/PS3.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

If it matters, I'm in the US on the west coast and prefer buying online

If you can push the budget further you can consider the RP6's, I also really liked http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Reveal601a/ when I had a listen in my local store a couple of weeks back.  
 
Active monitors tend to have a small sweet-spot for listening and are designed for listening at a desk or in pretty close proximity.  The idea is to form a triangle with the cones pointing directly at your ears at the same height at not much more than 2-3 meters.
 
You could also look into passive speakers connected to a receiver that can be connected to your PC and TV although this is not really something I would be able to give very good advice on.

I would also like to recommend my Airmotiv 4's. They actually have a bit of bass, and though you'll never mistake them for a sub, they are more than sufficient for my needs.

i have, and love the psb ps1's($299.99), they replaced the audioengine d1's, overall a much more refined sound,
i may add at some point the matching sub, its $250, but so far,  haven't really felt the need
