I'm looking for a good set of headphones for around $100. I was looking at the sennheiser HD 555. I am planning to use this for a laptop. I plan to get the Creative ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook so that i could get better sounds from the headphones. Are there any other good recommendations?

Grado SR60's + $40 in your pocket. I can't hear much of a difference at all between the SR60s and SR80s.

MS-1 since I use them myself and like them a lot. I'm currently waiting on GS1K pads to trasform them into MS1000

I also had 595s which is imo another class above 555s. Though they were very good sounding I found them to be a bit boring.

My MS-1 are by far more neutral than the 595s were and are more involving. Somehow the 595s just couldn't get me moving at all.

Besides, the MS-1 is kind of forgiving in terms of source and amplification.

About SR80.. I only listened to them briefly and I posted this before: I found them way to bright. And I also posted that I think he EQ'ed them a bit. If not, the SR80s are REALLY bright.

Those are one of the main reasons why people believe the MS-1 are (one of) the best headphones < 100USD.

I've heard some people mention they were more like modified SR125s. They're very bang-for-your-buck and you can't really go wrong with the MS-1s.

What about the Alessandro MS-1? I heard that there basically SR80s but slightly modified. Also aren't any of the Sennheiser's any good like the HD555 or Hd280 pro?

A part of it depends on what kind of music you like and what kind of sound you're looking for. What music do you listen to?

I have the MS1's and the SR80's. Both would be an excellent choice. If you prefer a more brighter sound, SR80's. If you like it a little warmer, MS1's. Can't really go wrong with either for what you are wanting them for.
