Sony DSC-V1 is pretty good for value and has excellent movie mode plus it's not bulky. Stick with the one that has good optical ,manual control and AF assist illuminator.

Microdrive should be somewhat fragile from the spinning disc inside and it may become hotter after a while. Plus it sucks up the battery rapidly.

I like Coolpix 5000/5400 since it has 28 - 85 mm lense and it feels good in my hand. Plus the screen that can be flipped. I alsos like V1 as mentioned earlier but don't like the pop up flash which make it difficult to hold the camera. Anyway you can't go wrog with Cannon. especially S30/40/45/50 or G series. But i think the black bodyof new S50 and G5 looks too aggrassive for my taste.

For the batteries, does anyone use the non-oem battery, it's very cheap in ebay $9.99 compare to $47.99 Canon, Heck, If there's no problem with compatibility, I'll buy 4 of them.
