I'm not too concerned over portability, i have read a bit on the Audioengine D1 and people say it sounds good with the dt880s would i even need an amp for them?
I will be getting the D1, but i need help when i click on the link for the premium 250 ohm here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&keywords=dt880%20250&tag=406-20&index=aps&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325
it leads me to this: http://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-880-Premium-250/dp/B000F2BLTM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380499781&sr=8-1&keywords=dt880+250 (600 ohm premium)
can you please try and tell me if it does the same thing
Get the Pro 250 ohm. I've heard them, and they sound great. Ask PurpleAngel, but I believe that he recommends the more expensive DT880 Premiums as not really providing much better SQ. Save your money for some other audio equipment

Get the DT-880 in 250 ohm. I own the 600 version but it's harder to amp and quality difference is marginal. The E17 for instance will nlt correctly drive the 600 ohm version, you will need the E09k combo. My advice: take a hard look at the O2/odac combo. You will not find better quality at that price, it is very neutral and delivers very good power. Google it, you will not find a lot of info on this site due to a spat betweennkts eveloper and the admins here. But its specs are terrific.
No worries for the cord of the 880, quality is good and it doesn't coil. Only disadvantage is thzt you can't replace it.
