Hi, I'm a long time lurker, and finally was not able to find the information I needed on this amazing site.  I'm looking to eq my headphones with SineGen software and a vst EQ through my foobar.  Yet I cant seem to get SineGen to work.  I've tried multiple versions and download sites, yet I always end up with t8he same error.

"The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated.  Use capabilities function to determine the supported formats."

This seems like it would be easy to fix, but as there are not many options to change in program, and (as far as I can tell I've messed with them all) no documentation even from the russian site.  Well that I saw it is in russian so I may have missed it.  I can't seem to fix my problem.

I can find frequency spectrum's for all my headphones, (sony mdr-7506, grado 80i, and sennheiser hd-600) but as I understand it I need to listen to the frequencies myself as well to see what resonates in my ear and fix those.  Oh also I have these going through a Fiio e7/e9 combo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

mainly been trying these two gens:

Also I'm trying to make all my connections balanced and was wondering if anyone could tell me if the fiio e7/e9 using usb to my computer would be balanced.  then output goes 1/4" trs to male xlr and then to female xlr and dual male xlr into the 1/4" trs inputs of my Bx5a's.

Really hoping the usb > mini usb is balanced audio.

In regard to my initial question, I think I'm going to get adobe audition for a variety of purposes and I think it can do what I want, but I'd appreciate if someone could confirm this for me?

Regarding your first question, go into setup and there is a text field where you can specify the output format. Try 16/44 and 16/48 first, these are the universally supported formats.

Regarding 2nd question, there‘s no such thing as a balanced or unbalanced USB connection because it‘s digital. You might want to worry about jitter instead if you believe in that kind of thing. Higher end DACs would cache the digital input so jitter would be a non issue.

Well in my setup the line of outputs is "24/96; 16/48; 16/44.1; 16/48 m24/96; 16/48; 16/44.1; 16/48 m"  so as far as I know it looks like both those sample rates are supported.  Cant figure out why it wouldn't be able to output those formats though.  Hoping adobe audition will make this a breeze for me although I'd still like to figure out my error here as I would think this should be a simple program to get running.

And ah yes I'm an idiot of course that's on the digital side before the dac so my whole analog connection will be balanced.  Also I don't really believe in the necessity of having balanced analog, but I think with the 20' of cabling I have I might as well have it just in case as it's not very hard to achieve.  Also I heard a rumor of the balanced to unbalanced connection that I used to have putting undue stress equal to the sum voltage of producing 6db on the amps of my Bx5a, and having already blown one I was trying to avoid this.

Well as far as I can tell the setup only takes into account the first setting in the list of formats, so all the different formats separated by semicolons is, I suspect, just the program's way of giving you examples of the syntax for specifying format, while the actual format being specified is 24/96.  I deleted everything and typed just "16/48" and that's what the format changed to, 16 bit 48kHz.
