Bass is tight and punchy. But for some the bass can be too lean. If you like a loud, fat bass (think D2000, DT770/80, Pro900), these are not for you.

Thanks, that finally settles it for me. These most likely are not for me

Oval earpads 41-6050 are on the way, courtesy of Thomas, to try them with the GMP 8.300 D.
See Ear Pad 41-6050 - GermanMAESTRO Shop
They should fit my ears better, I suppose.
I will give impressions.
Still impressed by the 8.300 D

More people should try the German Maestro's through this great loan program!

I made a thread about the GMP 8.300 D here: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/491084/the-german-maestro-gmp-8-300-d-professional-a-hidden-gem#post_6627776

The oval pads have not arrived yet, so I will post an update ones I got them.

I updated my GMP 8.300 D thread with my findings on the oval earpads, some corrections and added more pictures.

It still puzzles me that this loan program isn't more popular.
The German Maestro's are every bit as good as headphones from well known brands as AKG and BeyerDynamic.

Marketing is everything and tradition.

I like my German Maestros particularly for classical. I wouldn´t recommend them for rock lovers but the 435S is the most flat and neutral headphone I ever owned. Much better then the K701 and HD 650 for this task. 450 Pro did have some really juicy mids and with better colouration for classical then K701 and HD 650 so that I also rank higher.

Will be interesting how beyer stack up to them. Have a T1 on it´s way which should be a no contest you would imagine. Though HD 800 would be a bit more interesting since that also seemed more aimed to classical.

Only thing except for at times being too neutral and booring... As mentioned it´s not the first choice for me if I want to rock out for a quarter or so would be the soundstage... No angled drivers or anything just very headphoney very wide presentation and with very little depth.

I never listen to classical, so I can't commend on that.
The GMP 250 and the GMP 8.300 D are in my opinion suitable for rock.
The 250 for their deep bass and clarity, the 8.300 for their incredible PRaT.
The 8.300 is anything but boring,
I'm also sure they are no contest for the T1 or the HD800. But given the price.....
In the field of closed cans, the 8.300 beats the current top closed models of Beyer (DT770) and AKG (K271/2). Some of Sennheiser as well, HD380 for instance.

Great I will send him an e-mail. I am mainly interested in the open headphones. Wondering if they hold their own against the phones that Beyer and Sennheiser have to offer.

For some they will for some they won´t. I rather listen to the T1 then the 435S I have to say for classical, jazz but that is in another price class entirely.

I just wished the german maestros would have angled drivers. The very wide soundstaging but with no depth is their achilles heal I feel. Comfort is where they are unbeaten :)
