An excellent album, for sure. Probably my favorite from the Gabriel era. The live version on the Archives I boxset is dynamite too.

A classic. A creative "peak" from Peter Gabriel-era Genesis.

Yeah, one of their best IMO too... The last Peter Gabriel & Genesis era and different in style from their other previous great works (like Selling England, Nursery Crime and Foxtrot) One can feel Gabriel was already looking for new directions...

I guess there should be at least one anti-Lamb post on this thread. I'm a big fan of early to mid-70s Genesis, and while I can appreciate this album in an objective sense, it really doesn't do anything for me. I have trouble getting into the narrative aspect of it, so for me it's not as tight as Selling England, Foxtrot, or even Nursery Chryme.

Although Peter overdubed some for vocals for the live Lamb, Phil Collins did not redo any of his drum tracks! In 1974-75 Phil was at his best!

"The Lamb" is album is generally accepted as a classic, possibly the ultimate prog concept album of all time and has a huge cult following. Not surprisingly a Google search of "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" finds over 20,000 references.

When released, it was highly critically acclaimed, but not universally affected by all Genesis fans.

Written (almost) solely by Peter Gabriel - here are the Tracks and Lyrics. And an
interview.

Many interpretations have been written to try and understand/explain what it is all about:

And the unanswered question is ... who is Rael. BTW - apart from the title and introduction, the lamb doesn't feature at all.

Dead on Tom, the definitive version and a reason to buy the Archives set all by itself.
