Full-size, open headphones... "portable"?

Recently I've taken a lot of pleasure in walking outside with my HD-600s.  Of course there is no isolation whatsoever, but I very much like the openness of the sound, and the ability to hear things around me at the same time.  I'm not losing nearly as much bass as I feared I would... the resulting ambience is very nice, with a "live music" feel to it.
 
Now I'm thinking of getting me a 3-fool cable for these cans.
 
Thoughts?

By the way, I don't even use a very high volume - as a result, the music seems to blend in with the surroundings, as if it came from well-placed, hidden loudspeakers scattered around the streets...
