Gosh Rich, this one is no worse than the distorted SpongeBob that I had before. Just goes to show that we're just a little nuts in the music business.

BTW, my 2nd set of HD600's are going with me tomorrow to Louisiana to monitor another recording session. They'll be yours sometime, I just know it!

If you can afford to, try out the 701s or whichever cans you like, BUT hang on to your HD600!

With special cables, many, myself included, think that the HD600 is one of the most accurate and well-balanced headphones around. You will find many cans who do certain things better than the HD600, but overall, the HD600 is closer to a pair of speakers than most.

I am seduced by the sound of my ATH H5000, but when I I have doubts about a recording, I always reach out for my HD600 to double check things.

Enjoy your music!

Not a good move. The K701 adds distance between you and the music, whereas the HD600 is intimate, up close and personal. I would replace the hd-650s with the 701s, but not the hd-600s --- they're special.

Things are just gettin' better n better!! Only way I picture things even better yet is if either James or Dudley showed up in Louisiana to take over the console!!*chuckle, chuckle!*

......you haven't spend much time at home lately. Hope things settle out before the Holidays.

The history on those 600s is also getting more interesting all the time! The Wife is behind me on this one, so it's lookin' better n better from this end too!

....a little nuts in the music business? Oh Yeah!!

Oh; and please have a good, and safe trip!

Jirams,

Getting the 650s might be something to think about if you want a different flavor.

I might do the opposite, I already have 650s and I'm thinking of trying 600s.

There are great deals on all of these headphones right now, so you can't really lose.
Senn 650s are about 279-299 USD, AKG k701s are now being sold for ~240 USD at Northern Sound and Light. Both really great deals...
Is the price in Scotland comparable?

IMHO, I started out this site with a HD600 and HD595.....I think I may just stay that way!!! There's something so seductive about the slight warmness of the Sennheiser sound

Both cans are just sounding sweeter and sweeter with my system upgrades.

exactly what my non-audiophile gf says when I asked her to compare them, which is also true to me as well.

Thanks to all for the great response to my question. Looks like the consensus says the HD600 is a better 'phone set than the K701. It also looks like some also prefer the HD600 to the 650.

So it would seem

I had a slight feeling it might have been a mistake but i ordered mine anyway and they did honour the order (unlike hifibitz when i ordered the new DT990 at £125).

I'm listening to 501s as I write and look forward to receiving my 701s tomorrow but this doesn't mean I'm done with phones. I can't wait to try Senn 600s, Beyer 990s and Grado 325is. The consensus here is these are all wonderful phones and each has its own unique and worth while character. Unless you only want one it's a mistake to try to pick the best one. It's much more important to get the best amp you can afford so you won't be wondering is that the amp or the phone screwing up.

I currently own the K701 and Senn HD600. While the K701 is technically more resolving and smooth, the 600's are just more musical, and frankly seem to just get things "right".

I just happened to listened to both this morning before work. When comparing the two, I always put the k701's on and say wow these sound great, then after 1-2 songs start to get bored with them. Then I put the Senn HD600's on and several songs later remind myself that I'm comparing and not just listening for pleasure since they just seem to suck me into the music - while the K701's leave me analyzing the sound.

I prefer the 600 to the 650 also.
