Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Nov 28, 2015 at 12:26 PM Post #676 of 12,086
I bought this when it was around 205 units sold.
The original price vs massdrop price is what gave it away for me.
I am a heavy iem user and not much of a headphone enthusiast. I only have Z7, V6, 1R+BT, sennheiser hd25 & recently found a porta pro for $2.99 , so even if you add up all this to the prixes I bought it for it wouldnt total no more than $700.
looking forward to recieving this and pairing it with my fostex hp-p1.

I've been considering the TH-600 for some time now, so when this popped up I had to jump on it. Hopefully it will be a decent (semi)closed counterpart to my HE-400; the reviews seem promising. Got in when around 1050 had been sold yesterday.

I currently have a HD600/Corda HA-2 MkII (a combo I quite enjoy) with a LCD-2.2f on the way... I'm seriously considering taking a shot at the THx00/m9xx combo to see if I prefer it to the LCD-2, and keeping whichever I like best. Decisions, decisions...

I need some helps here about the characteristics of this THX00. I have read quite a few posts but I still could not figure out what I really want to know before I commit to the related massdrop.

Here is the question:

Does this THX00 sound quite flat or very much V shaped like Denon D5000 or Byerdynamics DT990?

Thanks in advance for any quick comment/feedback

all the people that have heard it say the X00 is more neutral than the TH-600/900 with a smoothed out treble and a deep but slightly less hard hitting bass.

From what I understand, both the TH-600 and 900 were extremely v-shaped sounding (I've never personally heard a Fostex before), and the TH-X00 is similar, but not AS v-shaped as the previous 2 models. These ones are supposedly okay for longer listening sessions with regard to fatigue. This is all based on how I took the reviews thus far.

I wonder if fostex is thinking they may have shot themself on the foot by creating these. I see th900 sales come to a crawl with this out, although there will always be the few that prefer to spend more to play in the summit club.

Doubtful.  It's limited to massdrop it's not like you can get it anywhere.   We don't know how many more drops there will be.

I also think it hits a different demographic.  If this was the new TH600 for MSRP $1,000 I wouldn't have purchased it. They got a sale from me that they otherwise never would have.

th900 has been out for a long tine. maybe something new is on the horizon.

+1 I'm sure fostex is working th900 mkii. The responds thx00 received will feed into their development.

I would be interested in an elevated TH-X00 with removable cable.

This is the initial release of a collaboration product, there was no "original price" as they have never been sold before, this is essentially an MSRP/ street price thing. Quite frankly it looked like them picking a random number between the street price of the 600 and 900 to me.

Advertsing/Marketing only, not a sale, just clarifying...

The drop stalled at around 1500-1600 units.  I thought I was going to get my pair early next week, but now it looks like we will have to wait a little longer.

If they don't sell all of them, I might even have to wait a whole week.  Oh my, these first world problems of mine.

Massdrop should add another option/button for those of us that are 100% committed to confirm our purchase so they can start shipping these out asap.
