the th900 has a midrange dip. doubt that burn-in will change that. they respond well to eq apparently. some folks claim that a tube amp can plump them up.

Well I'm currently using the WA7tp on the low impedance setting and switching off with the Audioquest Dragonfly V1.2. The sound is certainly of a higher quality from the WA7tp, but I prefer the general sound signature of the Dragonfly. Neither seem to do anything for the mids, and I feel that they are even more lost on the WA7tp.

Can you demo the headphones with dacs and amps?

In the market for great headphones to pair with my chord Hugo. I've been looking at all the summit-fi cans and read great reviews about the Th-900, etc... Would the fostex pair nice with the Hugo and should I recable them. I listen to mostly urban music and 90% of my music is high-res quality. Unfortunately there are no meets in my area, so I'm relying on the recommendations I recieve here. Thanks!

The stock cable is bulky and quite long, so recabling might be a good option.

I'll let the thread know the benefits of scorpian cable in a few, what wouldn't pair well with a Hugo, the th900 are not difficult to power, hpa8 is more than enough. As an example.

So is it safe to say that the sound quality is awesome, but the OEM cable is cumbersome. Also, how does the 900 compare to its sibling (600)?

To me the cable is rather nice. Only point is the junction getting caught at my desk constantly as its hanging rather deep.

I hear the TH600 as a bit less U-shaped, but a tad rougher in the treble region. Still better value/money... though I love the red cups.

I just tested the TH900 for the first time since I got the M9. All I can say is that the combination with the Vega and the M9 is great. I don't even feel the midrange dip as big as I did before.

I'm totally baffled on how much these scale on higher end gear. The only headphones that I've seen to scale better than this are the HD-800s.

Hi are you using the amp single ended with the stock cable?  If so, how does it sound?

Yes, the stock cable on single ended. The bass is well extended and controlled, the mids are clear and way less recessed than I remembered them and the highs are sparkly but still too much sometimes. Soundstage, imaging and clarity are great, even better than before.

Man, I'm trying really hard to love the TH900, but I'm disappointed by the extremely evident lack of mids. I find myself turning up the volume louder than I usually listen, causing quicker fatigue. Does this improve with burn in at all? They have about 5 hours on them.

Loose translation ......time to sell them.

LOL @Mortalcoil

Punt them my way....I'm easy.  I have too many headphones, but I don't own the TH900's....yet.
